Humus content classes (KA5) in Brandenburg topsoil

This map is based on the legend units of the soil overview map with corresponding assignment of parameterized surface soil shapes. These represent a soil-forming society per unit of legend. Parameters were applied to the individual (area) soil forms, including the corresponding humus contents, which were determined by field and laboratory tests. The same horizon-substrate combinations were combined and the corresponding parameters (such as humus contents) were statistically derived (usually the median value).
The humus contents of the horizon-substrate combinations of surface soil forms were classified according to the Soil Science Mapping Guide, 5th edition, Hannover 2005, Table 15. Due to the dominance of agricultural land in Brandenburg, the Hums classification was applied nationwide for agricultural use. The map shows the classified values for the topsoil. These are usually the values of the uppermost mineral or peat soil horizon. With different values for the surface soil shapes of the respective legend unit, humus content classes were weighted averaged.
