24 photographs of the 51st annual New Year's Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, 1940 January 1. This was the first year the Tournament of Roses was televised, at this time by Don Lee Broadcasting's W6XAO. Floats pictured include those from the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks ("Streamliner train"), Arcadia-Monrovia (console radio with "Good Neighbors"), "Wings Over California" (airplane), Los Angeles (City Hall); Loesch & Hills, Incorporated (cars), Glendale (US flag), Ventura (skyscraper), Orange (orange tree), Dr. Ross Dog & Cat Food Company (greyhounds), Las Vegas (frontier town), Van de Kamp's Bakeries (cake and Dutch mill), Huntington & Vista Del Arroyo (swimming hole vs. swimming pool); San Marino (woman), San Francisco (1940 World's Fair), San Bernardino (National Orange Show), Tennessee (statue of The Volunteer), Santa Barbara (sailboat and dolphin), Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (fountain), Santa Catalina Island (glass-bottom boat), and San Marino (rose garden), There are also equestrian groups, a marching band, the opening banner and automobile, as well as the crowds in the grandstands and on the sidewalk, and the police. The last two photographs show actor Monty Woolley on his horse. This was a separate envelope: "Subject: Mr. Woolley on horse in Rose Parade."
