Edwardsiella ictaluri was isolated from diseased Channel catfish in 1976, in Georgia, USA and obtained from ATCC bioresource center. Edwardsiella ictaluri is specifically adapted to the channel catfish host and the causative agent of enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC) around the world. ATCC 33202 was first isolated in 1976 and the type strain of Edwardsiella ictaluri. Previous genome sequence and proteome analysis of E. ictaluri 93-146 have provided an overview of this species. Comparative analysis of different E. ictaluri strains may comprehensively and systematically improve our understanding of the genetic diversity and microevolution of this species.
