Effect of virus infection on Globisporangium ultimum.

Most mycoviruses that infect phytopathogenic fungi are subclinical and do not affect the phenotype of the host fungus, but some alter the host phenotype. If mycoviruses reduce the pathogenicity of host fungi, they could be used for biological control. On the other hand, none of the oomycete viruses that have already been discovered altered the pathogenicity of host phytopathogenic oomycetes. We identified viruses from the phytopathogenic oomycete Globisporangium ultimum. These viruses do not seem to change the phenotype of the host. However, there is a possibility that the virus alters the gene expression pattern of host oomycetes. This study aimed to investigate the effects of viral infection on the gene expression of the host G. ultimum.
