Benzo (a) pyrene is one of the carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which is a pollutant in the environment. It is important to identify low level presentce of this compound in soil as it is toxic to living organisms and human. Eisenia fetida is a sentinal organism in soil which we have used to identify benzo(a)pyrene specific molecular markers. In order to develop markers, we have exposed Eisenia fetida to 10 mg/kg for a period of eight months and looked at the differentially expressed genes by next generation mRNA sequencing followed by transcriptome asesmbly.
