Understanding the potato tuber microbiome Metagenomic assembly

Different potato varieties were selected from different regions in Lower Austria and Bavaria. Potato varieties were cultivated twice. Afterwards, the microbiome of the different potato tubers was characterized. Sampling was performed at different time point, directly after receiving the potato tubers, after harvesting the first and the second generation of tubers. Tuber and soil bacterial microbiome was analyzed with Illumina sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene region.This study should be regarded as a first step towards gaining a deeper understanding of the genotype and soil type– dependent differences in plant-microbe interaction of potato tubers.
