Vampire bats are notorious for being the sole mammals which strictly feed on fresh blood for their survival. While its saliva has been historically associated with the presence of anticoagulants, surprisingly, only one anti-hemostatic (e.g. plasminogen activator) has been molecularly characterized. To gain further insights into the composition of the gland, the RNAs from both principal submandibular and accessory glands of Desmodos rotundus were extracted and ~ 200 million reads were sequenced by Illumina platform.
