Cordon Caulle Plume Data (2011-2012) - MISR/MODIS Satellite Retrievals

MINX Plume Heights (Image & text files): This dataset contains individual folders the MINX output for all MISR-observed volcanic plumes generated during the 2011-2012 eruption of Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano (39 total plumes). Each folder name corresponds to the MISR Orbit number from which the data was obtained (refer to plume charateristic.txt file for dates). In the majority of cases, each folder contains a single retirieval. However, in complex cases additional analyses are included in the corresponding folder. MINX output includes: Plume Height Historgram, Plume Height/Wind Speed Graph, Plume Point Contour Image [for data in each of the MISR Blue (denoted by B) and Red (denoted by R) bands], plus 9 MISR images obtained from each MISR camera and a text file containing the values derived within the provided analysis. Where available a image-based summary of potential plume properties, derived from the MISR standard algorithm are included. For infomation on MINX see: https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/tools/minx MISR RA Output (Qualitative Particle Properties) (NetCDF & Images): This dataset contains the NetCDF results generated using the MISR Research Algorithm (RA) [see: Limbacher, J. A., Kahn, R. A., & Lee, J. (2022). https://doi.org/10.5194/amt-15-6865-2022] for each plume imaged during the 2011-2012 eruption of Puyehue-Cordon Caulle, (all included but only those with sufficient optical depth were incorporated into this analysis). Key data in individual NetCDF files include: Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), Particle Size, Angularity (fraction non-spherical particals) and Single Scattering Albedo. These are accompanied by an image of the key variables for quick review, where available. MISR Plume Distinction (CSVs) A series of .csv files for three retrieval environments (Plume, Background [Bkg], Cloud) across four plume classification catagories (Aerosol Optical Depth [AOD]; Particle Size [radius in microns]; Fraction of Non-Spherical Components [NSph]; Absorption [Abs - in form of Single Scattering Albedo]). Each of the 12 files contains a series of columns, with each column corresponding to an individually imaged plume, with the header including the date of observation. These are accompanied by an image, summarising possible thresholds determined a random forest analysis using this data, to distinguish plumes from background and clouds. MISR/MODIS Plume Extent: This folder includes two Geopackage files. Each file contains a multi-polygon feature representing the extent of plumes imaged by individual sensors (MISR and MODIS), and identified by the author, during the 2011-2012 Puyehue-Cordon Caulle eruption. Plume Characteristics (txt) A file summarising derived plume characteristics: Date of Observation; MISR Orbit, Path & Blocks; MINX (plume height) Analysis indicator; MISR RA (particle properties) Analysis indicator; MODIS Plume Extent retrieval indicator; Plume Area (derived from MODIS data), Plume Height (ht): Minimum, Median, Maximum (derived from MISR data). All retrievals were processed by V. Flower. J. Limbacher and R. Kahn developed the MISR RA algorithm employed in this analysis
