Replication Data for: Identifying Reasons for Small & Medium-Sized Firm Closures in North Carolina: An Exploratory Framework Leveraging Administrative Data

The data are anonymized administrative records for 92,227 firms that registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State (NCSOS) between 2009 and 2022 which were later dissolved between 2015 to 2022. Dissolution is defined as registered firms that have been (1) administratively dissolved by the NCSOS, (2) voluntary filed articles of dissolution, (3) placed into revenue suspension status by the NC Department of Revenue, or (4) were judicially dissolved as the result of adverse legal proceedings. The data include date of formation, dissolution, method of dissolution, and basic geographic indicators of both the registrant entity and its registering officer.
