Virome of European white-toothed shrews - Metagenomic assembly

This study investigated the virome of four white-toothed shrew species from Germany and the Czech Republic using high-throughput RNA sequencing of organ and intestine pools from 45 specvimens. We have demonstrated a high diversity of viruses and frequent co-infections in the investigated European white-toothed shrew species: greater white-toothed shrew (Crocidura russula), lesser white-toothed shrew (Crocidura suaveolens), bicolored white-toothed shrew (Crocidura leucodon), and the Etruscan shrew (Suncus etruscus). This indicates the potential of these shrew species being hyperreservoirs.
