The Metop ASCAT surface soil moisture product is based on a semi-empirical change detection method developed by TU Wien. The mulit-angle backscatter observation from Metop ASCAT are used to derive relative surface soil moisture information expressed in degree of saturation (0 - 100%). The product contains processing, correction and confidence flags to indicate the quaility of the product.
