Colorado Outstanding Waters 2024

All waters in Colorado are protected for water quality. All state waters in Colorado are protected for their classified uses: drinking water supply, aquatic life, recreation and/or agriculture. There are additional Antidegradation protections for some waters to prevent those waters from getting significantly worse. There are three categories of antidegradation classifications. 1. Use-protected: The uses of the water (drinking water, aquatic life, recreation, and agriculture) are protected 2. Reviewable: Some antidegradation protections. Requires an extra level of review to maintain water quality. No significant degradation is allowed. 3. Outstanding: Provides the greatest amount of antidegradation protection and existing quality must be maintained. Strict antidegradation protections. No permanent degradation is allowed (e.g. in national parks).
