PtPt2F is alpha bismuth trifluoride structured and crystallizes in the cubic Fm-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional and consists of four platinum black molecules and one Pt2F framework. In the Pt2F framework, Pt+0.33+ is bonded to four equivalent F1- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing PtF4 tetrahedra. All Pt–F bond lengths are 2.68 Å. F1- is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight equivalent Pt+0.33+ atoms.
