We report the synthesis of a novel, highly fluorescent pentacoordinate silicon compound which is apparently the first example of a vinylogous β-diketonate complex. The compound was generated by slow, solid-state oxidation of a methoxysilane derivative of tetraphenylcyclopentadiene.
