In 2022, China's footwear market reached a sales value of around 450.2 billion yuan in total. That year, China remained the largest footwear market in the world. Athletic footwear and non-sports footwear each made noteworthy contributions to the market. Athletic footwear market Athletic shoes are very popular in China, not only because they offer various functions, but also because they are comfortable to wear on a daily basis. Thanks to its practicality, running shoes have become the most preferable type of athletic footwear among Chinese consumers. China’s athletic footwear market has a very high concentration rate, with 10 leading companies occupying three fourths of the market. Of these, Nike has maintained its dominance for years. Non-sports footwear market The retail sales of non-sports footwear has remained stable, hovering around 200 billion yuan annually. Women’s shoes constituted a significant majority of the total sales of non-sports footwear and was expected to capture even more market share in the coming years. The largest non-sports footwear brand was Belle, which was also the only one to enter the list of 10 leading brands in China’s footwear market. Belle offers a diverse selection of fashion footwear at different price ranges to solidify its leading position.
