High throughput construction of species characterized biobank for functional bacteria screening

Bacteria and their natural products display extensive diversity, presenting significant prospects for industrial biotechnology. However, due to the restricted throughput in constructing and screening bacterial biobanks, only a small portion of this diversity has been characterized and exploited. In this study, we have developed a cost-effective and high-throughput platform for biobank construction and functional bacteria screening. We employed a unique double-ended barcoding strategy, enabling thousands of bacterial isolates to be pooled for simultaneous Nanopore sequencing of full-length 16s rDNA for species identification.
