Lab 3 - Abundance of Species in Danby Woods

This study of species' abundance in Danby Woods of York Univerisity was conducted by myself and three other group members including Alexandra, Khaula and Houra from BIOL 2050 Ecology Lab 02 on September 29, 2015. It was a cloudy day and it started pouring heavily a while after we started the experiment around 2:45pm. When we finished at 4:30pm, it was still raining. The purpose of this lab was to study the abundance of different species in the grassland and woodlot of Danby Woods in York University. An 1 inch x 1 inch quadrat was randomly placed on the ground and we recorded the number of different species within the quadrat. The same procedure was repeated 10 times in the grassland area and 10 times in the woodlot. Identified species included ants, flies, beeltes, grasshoppers and moths. However, the total number of the insects found was very small due to the rainy weather.
