This study focuses on conducting whole-genome resequencing of Penicillium ochrochloron, a fungus isolated from an industrial wasteland in Vieux-Charmont, France, by the Chrono-environment laboratory at University Franche-Comte. As part of the EU HORIZON-BIOSYSMO project, the research aims to uncover the genetic mechanisms underlying the metal tolerance of P. ochrochloron. Through comprehensive genomic analysis, the study seeks to identify specific genes and pathways that contribute to the fungus's ability to survive and adapt to environments with high levels of heavy metal contamination. The insights gained from this research are expected to enhance our understanding of fungal adaptation and resilience, paving the way for innovative bioremediation strategies and improving our capacity to manage and rehabilitate polluted environments.
