This project investigates the prevalence, serotype distribution, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns, and genomic epidemiology of Salmonella enterica isolated from retail pork, beef, and chicken meats collected across Hong Kong between July 2022 and June 2023. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was employed to characterize isolates, identify AMR genetic determinants, and perform phylogenetic analysis to understand transmission dynamics and the genetic relatedness of Salmonella strains in the food supply. The study aims to provide crucial baseline data on Salmonella contamination in the local food chain and inform public health strategies to combat foodborne illness and antimicrobial resistance.
