The experiment used a randomized block design with four treatments (T0-T3)
and four replicates for each maize (DMRESR-Y and EV99-MRP, improved seed
of maize varieties are available at the National Agricultural Research
Centre; CNRA of Côte d'Ivoire) and soybean variety. Of note, the
soybean seeds were purchased from the local market under the common name
of yellow soybeans and green soybeans. Each 4 × 4 m plot contained four 4
m long rows, with 75 cm between rows and 40 cm between plants (two per
hill after thinning). Treatments were T0, control (no P. fluorescence or
foliar fertilizer); T1, seeds inoculated with P. fluorescence; T2, seeds
inoculated with P. fluorescence plus foliar biofertilizer; and T3, foliar
fertilizer only. The plots were maintained with monthly weeding and relied
solely on rainfall. Twenty samples per treatment and replicate were
collected to evaluate the growth, yield, and dry biomass for statistical
analysis.
