Mobile Money Phone Scam Survey Dataset

This dataset documents mobile money phone scams and their effects on users in Cameroon. It combines two collections that should be analyzed separately. The 2025 field survey contains 800 responses collected in Dang, Ngaoundéré, and surrounding areas. Its structured questionnaire records mobile money use, scam awareness, victimization, methods used by attackers, financial losses, reporting behavior, and prevention needs. The 2026 collection contains 31 retained online questionnaire responses and 130 narratives: 25 transcriptions of interviews recorded in Ngaoundéré and 105 additional texts attributed in the supplied dataset to Signal-Arnaques and cirt.cm. The 2026 questionnaire covers participants’ profiles, how scammers contacted them, the identities scammers claimed, the content and sequence of the interaction, and participants’ reactions. The 2026 records are separate from the 800 survey responses and are not included in the 2025 survey statistics. The interview transcriptions were prepared for sharing with identifying details removed. The 25 original recordings are not publicly deposited because they contain participants’ personal information. Access for source verification may be considered on request, subject to consent and confidentiality safeguards. The individual webpage source of each of the 105 website narratives has not been established in the dataset. These data are intended for academic research on cybersecurity, digital finance, fraud prevention, and user awareness. They may support analyses of reported scam patterns and experiences; the website narratives should not be treated as responses from the Cameroon field survey.
