The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of diet supplementation with microbiota-accessible carbohydrate on systemic metabolic effects. Recent research has shown significant health benefits deriving from consumption of dietary fiber or microbiota-accessible carbohydrates. Compared with native starch, resistant starch has greater gut microbial accessibility, significantly alters the gut microbiota and changed the levels of microbiota-derived metabolites in plasma.
