youtube_commentsIn order to investigate the interactive digital narrative mechanism and communication effectiveness of cultural heritage in games, this study uses the comments left by international players on Black Myth: Wukong as its primary analytic object. This study uses the LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) topic model (Blei et al., 2003), focusing on topic mining of comments on Black Myth: Wukong-related cultural heritage videos on the YouTube platform, in order to objectively and methodically identify the core concerns and cognitive structure of overseas players regarding cultural heritage in Black Myth: Wukong and prevent biases caused by the researcher's subjective selection of comments. This approach's benefit is its ability to automatically distill possible subject clusters from large amounts of textual data, exposing the patterns and hotspots of players' organic conversations. It further reveals the interactive digital storytelling mechanism of cultural heritage in games when combined with Hartmut Koenitz's SPP model, which is depicted in the figure.
Using keywords like "black myth wukong," "Chinese," "music," "culture," "heritage," "Shanbei storytelling," "wall sculpture," "myth," "Journey to the West," "traditional," "Buddhist philosophy," "aesthetics," "martial arts culture," and "kongfu," this study searched YouTube and found 13 extremely relevant videos (as of September 13, 2025), as indicated in Table 2. Following the crawling and cleaning of these films' comments, 5,649 legitimate comments were found.
