Facebook, together with Snapchat, ranked first in the list of mobile apps with highest perceived importance in Norway in 2020. The share of the respondents who reported to be using these two platforms were 20 percent. Next in the ranking were Instagram and Facebook Messenger, which were considered important by 16 percent and 12 percent of respondents, respectively. As of the first quarter of 2020, over 80 percent of Norwegians with Facebook profiles used the social network daily, while only three percent of them used it monthly or less frequently. Most downloads A study conducted in 2020 found that Messenger was the second most downloaded networking app in the Apple App Store in Norway, right after Beer Buddy - Drink With Me!. In fact, Messenger was downloaded over 23 thousand times for that period. Facebook had 18.5 thousand downloads and thus, ranked second. In contrast, the most downloaded social app in Google Play Store was Tik Tok, with close to 74 thousand downloads that year. Snapchat and Beer Buddy came in second and third in the ranking with 22.9 thousand and 18 housand downloads. Social media apps in the Nordic countries Overall, Facebook led as most popular daily used social media app in the Nordics over the period between 2016 and 2019. The app was used by over 60 percent of phone or smartphone users in 2019. Instagram and YouTube had 38 percent and 29 percent of respondents who used them, respectively.
