NRS-16672 | Minutes of Staff Meetings [Cessnock Public School]

The volumes and files in this series record the minutes of staff meetings held at Cessnock Public School, along with copies of some material presented to these meetings. These meetings could involve either the whole of the teaching staff at the school (“General Meetings”) or only the staff of a particular department, or those teaching a particular subject area. Matters of curriculum, discipline and the school’s daily routine were addressed at these meetings, which appear, during most periods of the school’s history, to have been held irregularly, as occasion required. There is little long-term consistency in these minutes; the record of any given meeting may include a full account of the matters dealt with, or may consist only of a brief memorandum of the meeting having been held.The first surviving item in this series consists of a volume in which the minutes of meetings held during the period 1939-1949 have been entered by hand. Subsequent minutes are, for the most part, typescript copies preserved in files (one such file, however, having been created by taking the case of a volume from which the original pages have been removed, and inserting the loose papers of the minutes within it). These files exist for the years 1952-1953 and 1959-1963.
