Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an acquired brain injury resulting from an external mechanical force, which may cause temporary or permanent functional impairment. TBI is also referred to as 'acquired brain injury,' 'head injury,' or 'brain damage,' and results in disruption of normal brain function due to sudden trauma. TBI may lead to physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social consequences.
