RNAseq data of freshwater and brackishwater adapted Etroplus suratensis specimens

Etroplus suratensis (pearlspot or green chromide), the largest of the Indian cichlid fishes display unique adaptation to salinity. Unlike migratory fishes that move to a different salinity habitat only for reproduction, this cichlid fish completes entire life cycle in diverse salinity habitats including freshwater, brackishwater and marine environments. The natural freshwater and brackishwater habitats serve as excellent resources to understand this fish adaptation to salinity with out the necessity of conducting salinity stress xperiments.In this context, the current study generated RNAseq data on fish specimens collected from a freshwater Vellayani lake, India) and a brackishwater habitat (Parvathy puthanar, India) using liver, gill and skin tissues.
