The purpose of this lab was to identify and compare the coverage in percentage of grass versus plants in each quadrat of the grassland. The data of this experiment was collected from the grassland lot located at York University Keele Campus (43.7 degrees North, 75.9 degrees West), between York Blvd and Keele St. at 3:00pm. It was 26°C outdoors in the grassland lot and very sunny. The quadrat was randomly placed on the ground in the grassland lot, and the total number of plant species as well as the number of plants in total in the quadrat were counted by observation and recorded in a table. The percentage of coverage of the plants and grass were also observed in each quadrat out of 100% and were recorded in the table. The quadrat was placed in 25 different spots in the grassland lot and the data were all recorded on the same table for each quadrat, for a total of 25 trials. All the data was collected in a notebook. The duration of the experiment was 1 hour and 30 minutes. Each of the 25 quadrats used in the experiment was measured using measuring tape. Each quadrat had an area of 1m2, therefore a total of 25m2 of quadrats were used. It was hypothesized that plants would have a higher coverage percentage in the grassland while the grass had a lower percentage of coverage. <br>
