The PELE dataset was created by the Volcanic Risk Solutions team from the Institute of Agriculture and Environment, Massey University, New Zealand, for simulating and measuring large-scale pyroclastic flow experiments. This dataset contains 124 kg of natural volcanic particles, with experimental pyroclastic density currents generated via controlled gravitational collapse of the particles. During the dataset's development, high-speed and high-resolution cameras as well as thermal infrared cameras were used to capture the flow processes, while data including flow velocity, temperature, solid mass fraction and particle size distribution were collected. This dataset is primarily utilized for benchmarking numerical models of pyroclastic flows, aiming to address the complex flow structures and transport behaviors in pyroclastic flow simulations.
