Groundwater and surfacewater disinfection processes. Changes in groundwater and surface water bacterial community under different disinfection processes

Pathogenic bacteria from human fecal contamination have been widely studied as individual species. Based on this knowledge, microbial risks and indicators of sanitary and environmental quality have been defined. Advances in the understanding of the microbiome and its complex human-microbiome-environment interactions suggest a broader observation of the effects of disinfectants in the wider community. We performed a screening experiment of four disinfection processes: ozone, UVC, photo-Fenton, and chlorination using 16S barcodes. We find different diversities in groundwater and river water. All treatments affected communities differently.
