The study analyzed the microbial communities of sediment and water fractions of five different sites in the lagoon of Venice seasonally for 30 months. By means of 16S rRNA gene metabarcoding, the study wanted to analyze planktonic and benthic prokaryotes, their diversity and dynamics in the Venice lagoon in Italy, a lagoon subjected to a high anthropogenic pressure.
