Most herpes simplex virus genomes (HSV) have come from urban settings in Europe and North America, with only limited sampling from rural populations and the Global South. Here we describe the first-ever HSV1 genomes from a remote pastoralist population in northern Namibia, collected via stable-storage on Whatman FTA cards.
