CCPC - Local Subwatersheds (Cuyahoga County)

The local watersheds available for viewing in the map are classified as a Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 12 of the National Hydrography Dataset, and have been modified slightly for local naming conventions and groupings. The HUC level indicates watershed size and HUC 12 is considered a local sub-watershed that includes tributary systems. A watershed is a geographic region with rivers and streams that all drain into a larger, single named body of water. Hills and valleys direct water to the drainage basin, such as a river or lake. The action of a watershed can be viewed on a small scale, such as the area that drains into the creek behind a house. Or, watersheds can be large such as the range of land and streams that drain into the Ohio River or Lake Erie. (Ohio EPA) Most of the watersheds in Cuyahoga County are supported and coordinated by local watershed stewardship groups, such as Friends of Euclid Creek or Doan Brook Watershed Partnership.
