A cv. Byrd pecan tree in a Georgia orchard was diagnosed for the presence of Xylella fastidiosa, causal agent of pecan bacterial leaf scorch (PBLS). The tree was highly symptomatic and the bacterium was present within petiole samples at a high concentration. DNA was isolated and sequenced via Illumina HiSeq. The metagenomic sequence was then analyzed. Xylella fastidiosa DNA was extracted from the sequence data and assembled into a representative metagenomic assembled genome (MAG).
