According to a survey on mobile apps conducted by Rakuten Insight in August 2024, Tinder was the most popular dating app in Taiwan, with about 52 percent of the surveyed dating app users having used the casual dating platform. The same survey also found that dating apps have a higher penetration rate among male respondents.  To swipe or not to swipe From Tinder and Grindr to Tantan (Chinese) and Paktor (Singaporean), Taiwan’s dating app scene is quite diverse for a market with less than 22 million internet users. Tinder has had an edge over other rivals because of its large international user base, yet, many Taiwanese singles have become fatigued with its swiping culture. A 2024 survey revealed that dating apps were commonly perceived as superficial, unromantic, and time-consuming.  Searching for deep connectionsIn fact, local single people preferred meaningful connections. This has given rise to home-grown versions like Goodnight, which connects lone souls through voice chats. WeTouch and Eatgether were other successful cases focusing on users’ common interests and activities. With multi-millions of unattached hearts curious about meeting new people, Taiwan remains a lucrative market for dating apps. In 2025, Taiwan’s online dating market was estimated to be about 25 million U.S. dollars.
