In our previous study, we found significant changes in the richness and diversity of the rumen microbiota in cows with ketosis, mainly showing a decrease in the abundance of propionate producing bacteria and an increase in the abundance of acetate and butyrate producing bacteria. Therefore, we suggest that there are specific bacterial communities in the rumen of ketosis-susceptible cows that are closely related to the occurrence of ketosis.Analysis of the rumen microbiome for cows suffering ketosis and identification of biomarkers during ketosis could provide a new idea and strategy for the control of ketosis in dairy cows.
