16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of oral microbiota in rats of chronic alcohol consumption with periodontitis

This study used 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing to investigate the changes in the oral microbial community of rats with periodontitis that were impacted by chronic alcohol consumption. We found chronic consumption of alcohol affected the composition and functional characteristics of the oral microbiota in rats with periodontitis, according to the results of 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Microbial alterations may be involved in the process by which chronic alcohol consumption worsens periodontitis in rats.
