Group layer Legally protected biotopes according to §30 BNatSchG / §42 LNatSchG NRW (area, line, point)

Important note: The dataset is updated daily under OpenData NRW! The map layer §42 biotopes can be selected in the Web Map Service Landscape Information Collection (WMS LINFOS) and displays the spatial location of legally protected biotopes in North Rhine-Westphalia in accordance with § 42 of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Nature Conservation Act. Protected biotopes are endangered habitats that are subject to blanket legal protection (§ 30 BNatSchG or § 42 LNatSchG). All measures or actions that lead to the destruction or a significant or lasting impairment of the biotopes are prohibited. The protection applies by law, i.e. without the need for a designation of protected areas or a mapping of biotopes. The mapping of the biotopes by the LANUV and the information of the landowners by the Lower Landscape Authority have a purely declaratory character. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the following biotopes are protected by law: 1. natural or semi-natural unobstructed areas of flowing and standing inland waters, including their banks and the associated natural or semi-natural vegetation accompanying the shore, as well as their natural or semi-natural silting areas, altars and regularly flooded areas, 2. bogs, swamps, reed beds, wet meadows rich in segs and bins, spring areas, inland salt sites, 3. Open inland dunes, natural rock formations, open natural block, debris and scree heaps, clay and loess walls, dwarf shrub, broom and juniper heaths, bristle grasslands, species-rich lean meadows and pastures, dry grasslands, natural heavy metal grasslands, forests and shrubs of dry-warm locations, 4. Fractional, marsh and alluvial forests, gorge, log heap and hillside debris forests. The legally protected biotopes are recorded in NRW as part of the biotope mapping and documented in a nationwide database. The data is available to third parties via the specialist information system ‘Legislatively protected biotopes in NRW’ on the LANUV website.
