Municipality

Created for all users to view and understand jurisdictional boundaries within Cook County. The GIS department maintains the Municipality feature. The Municipal boundaries are drawn based on Annexation and Disconnection ordinances approved by the respective municipality. Court Orders will also affect a change in the boundary feature. Boundaries are also updated to align to the far side of the right of way in accordance with Illinois state statute. Data is updated periodically throughout the year as the GIS department receives notices of an annexation or disconnection primarily through the recording of ordinances and in some cases receiving ordinances through the Cook County Clerk, the Municipality themselves or other government office.
