Respiratory viral infections continue to pose a significant threat to public health. Despite the development of multiple antiviral agents, respiratory viral infection remains the third leading cause of death globally. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop novel therapeutic strategies. We collected serum samples from patients infected with influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 and employed metabolomic profiling to identify sphinganine-phosphate as a metabolite potentially involved in protection against respiratory viral infections.
