Draft Genomes of Meropenem Resistant Pseudomonads from the Cloacae of Turtles in Lake Opinicon, Canada

We report the complete genome sequences of nine meropenem resistant Gram-negative bacterial strains isolated from the cloacae of painted and musk turtles at Lake Opinicon, Ontario, Canada. Meropenem belongs to the carbapenem family and interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death (Baldwin et al., 2008). This study helps to improve our understanding of the spread of meropenem resistant bacteria in the wild.
