Trial Bags of the Toulouse Parliament – Lot 02

The files, commonly referred to as [**Trial bags**](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sac_%C3%A0_proc%C3%A8s), described in this database contain the trials tried on appeal by the Parliament of Toulouse from the 17th century to the 18th century. This base is now rich with about 14000 cards. The work of stripping and enrichment is ongoing. These procedural files are composed of a wide range of documents: interrogation of suspects, defence pleas, collection of testimony, sentence handed down at first instance, minutes of forensic doctors or midwife, etc. The subject-matter of these trials is no less varied, with Parliament judging in both civil and criminal matters: conflict of inheritance, use and enjoyment of property, adjoining property, debt, theft, murder, robbery, rape... The panorama of society offered by this collection of archives, the diversity of the documentary typology and the geographical area covered, a large territory like the present Occitanie, mean that the prospects for research are almost infinite. Social history and judicial history in particular have already produced many academic works from this fund and continue to invest it.
