A large forest fire broke out on September 8, 2021, in Sierra Bermeja, Jubrique, devastating approximately 9,500 hectares. This significant event affected seven municipalities and numerous private and public landowners. The fire's damage was assessed under EMSR545, emphasizing the destruction of crucial habitats, including the unique Spanish fir forests.
To aid in the comprehensive restoration, this activation aims to monitor the recovery of the environment in the affected area and to provide information regarding the risk to accommodate the use and services of the impacted territory. Due to the ecosystem relevance and to allow for higher accurate results, the Copernicus Aerial Component was activated to provide high-resolution images of the area.
