Identifying biosynthetic gene clusters whose products inhibit cystic fibrosis derived pathogens.

Cystic fibrosis patients are often susceptible to chronic pulmonary infections and therefore undergo extensive antibiotic treatments. This provides strong selective pressures for the evolution of multi-drug resistant bacterial populations in the lungs of these patients. This study aims to identify biosynthetic gene clusters within environmental bacteria whose products have been shown to inhibit the growth of these cystic fibrosis derived multi-drug resistant pathogens.
