The objectives of the leg were to collect cores of late Pleistocene sediments along two north-south transects crossing the equatorial current system of the Pacific, to collect a depth transect of cores in the eastern equatorial Pacific Pacific, and to collect seabeam and single-channel seismic reflection data at locations which are being considered as possible drill-sites by the Ocean Drilling Program.
