18-storey steel hi-rise test on E-Defense Shake Table

A large scale shaking table test was performed at the E-Defense facility to investigate the seismic behavior of a steel high-rise until its collapse. The specimen of a steel high-rise was repeatedly loaded to collapse with a synthetic ground motion computed for a gigantic earthquake estimated in Japan. This test displays the damage progression of columns, beams and floor slabs, and the collapse mechanism of the steel high-rise; and provides data that can be a basis for quantifying the collapse margin of high-rises.
