Intensity-PGA ground motion data set for Colombia

This dataset contains the complete set of information used to develop empirical relationships between Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) and macroseismic intensity (I) for earthquakes in Colombia. The dataset was created and processed as part of the study “Empirical Relationship Between the Strong-Motion Parameter PGA and Macroseismic Intensity for Earthquakes in Colombia”, presented at the XI Colombian Earthquake Engineering Conference (2024)

The dataset includes instrumental ground-motion records and macroseismic intensity observations from ten historical earthquakes that occurred between 1994 and 2016, with magnitudes ranging from Mw 5.3 to 7.2. By matching accelerograph stations with municipalities reporting intensity values, 62 PGA–Intensity pairs were obtained and manually validated using distance and topographic similarity criteria.

The dataset provides coordinates, PGA values from multiple components, EMS-98 and MM intensity assignments, and additional metadata for each event. These data enable reproduction of the regression analyses developed in the study, exploration of alternative empirical models, assessment of regional dependencies, and integration into seismic hazard or rapid damage-estimation applications.

This dataset aims to support transparency, reproducibility of the data, facilitating comparisons with global studies and promoting further research on historical seismicity and ground-motion parameters in Colombia.
