Ceramic: Tularosa Patterned Corrugated, rectangular bowl, AMNH 29.0/7128

Tularosa Patterned Corrugated, bowl (trencher style), Accession 29.0, Catalog #7128. Morris FS 724. Analyzed by Lori Reed 2004. Temper not analyzed. Bowl is rectangular shaped; smudged and polished interior; fine patterned corrugations on exterior. Although the vessel is 100% complete, roughly 40% is an artist reconstruction using unknown clay and black paint. Most of the original smudging on the interior surface was painted over with black commercial paint to reconstruct a smudged appearance. Measurements: 18,5 x 8 cm orifice diameter; 6.2 cm height. Recovered from Earl Morris excavation of Room 51, Aztec West Ruin. Morris indicates “the initial deposit in Room 51 was an average of 8 feet of refuse, over which lay charcoal from the burned ceiling. The specimens found in the refuse were: a rectangular bowl, three black-on-white ware bowls, fragment of a black-on-white pot lid, potsherds, seven grooved axes,…[long list of artifacts]…Centrally placed in the west wall had been a T-shaped door…The door had been completely filled with masonry. The wall beneath it had been torn out to provide a vent for the tunnel described under Room 56. The rectangular door in the center of the east wall also had been blocked. In the southeast corner a triangular bench of masonry rose to a height of 1 foot 7 inches. It extended 3 feet along both east and south walls.
