Research on geodynamic issues such as Antarctic plate motion monitoring is a large-scale, long-term research plan that has long been a focus of the international Antarctic geoscience community, falling within the scope of long-term changes in the Antarctic environment. China has conducted research in this field since the Eighth Five-Year Plan period. Since 1992, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) has coordinated over a dozen countries and more than 30 Antarctic stations to participate in the annual 22-day continuous Antarctic GPS campaign joint survey, and China joined this international cooperative research program in 1994. The GPS international joint survey is a large-scale international cooperative scientific research project implemented by SCAR-WGGGI. Its objectives are as follows: (1) Measure the relative motion velocities and directions between the Antarctic Plate and its adjacent plates as well as microplates; (2) Determine the relative motions between individual crustal blocks within the Antarctic Plate; (3) Unify the vertical datum system of Antarctica and determine the elevation of each Antarctic research station; (4) Conduct scientific research on 'global-Antarctica interactions' such as the vertical motion of the Antarctic lithosphere caused by ice sheet melting and ocean load changes. The scheduled time for this 2002 GPS international joint survey was from 00:00 UTC on January 20, 2002 to 24:00 UTC on February 10, 2002, totaling 22 days, with a requirement for 24-hour continuous daily observations. The actual observation period was from January 10 to February 28, 2002. The Trimble 4000ssi equipment used in this joint survey was provided by the School of Geodesy and Geomatics, Wuhan University. It features dual-frequency L1 and L2 phase output and is capable of receiving GPS satellite signals on P1, P2, and P codes. As an internationally advanced, high-precision instrument, it is widely adopted in international joint surveys and by numerous IGS (International GNSS Service) stations worldwide.
