Agropyron cristatum and its variety, Agropyron cristatum var. pluriflorum, are important gramineous forages and wild relatives of wheat. The inflorescence morphology directly determines their yield potential. However, the molecular regulatory mechanism driving the formation of the high-yield inflorescence phenotype in Agropyron cristatum var. pluriflorum remains unclear.
